Camera Cage Tiltaing

The next camera system to be supported by our Tiltaing collection of camera accessories is the new Canon R5. Featuring a new mirrorless CMOS image sensor and 8K RAW / 4K 120P capabilities, Canon has made an attractive tool for video content creators. Camera cages, handles, and other accessories will be made available for this new camera, along with a brand new cooling module.

Created to extend recording times and help mitigate overheating, this easily installed module combines a fan, heat sink and temperature sensor. It will activate as needed, and can be removed with ease. Learn more about this new feature and look for more information about more Canon R5 components and their availability soon.

  1. Does this cooling system have a built in battery? If so how long can it run for?

    1. Power appears to be external via usb, so plug in or use a power bank. Seems to be just a fancy housing and heat sink for a pretty standard Peltier heat pump unit.

      1. I thought peltiers were HORRIBLY inefficient. Have they improved in recent years?

        1. They are very inefficient but but who cares, keep the power up to it and it will work great.

  2. Great looking solution! But please design the camera cage for photographer too so that you can access the whole right hand side of the camera. I would like to shoot some stills then shoot some video but the cage fouls the controls, and you are forced into removing the cage to shoot stills. A removable part of the cage on the right hand side will keep both video and hybrid stills shooters happy.

    1. Totally agree and would buy it yesterday if proven to extend shooting time.

    2. Oiy, wait. Am I missing something? What exaclty is covered up/unuseable w/ cage on the RHS?

      1. I mean the right hand side as if you are holding the camera. The grip side, as this tilta covers the controls and shutter.

    3. I think there is no need to worry. First the pictures show that it doesn’t cover the shutter. In addtion, in the BMPCC verison, they have the half cage verison that only convers the left side of the camera. I guess they must provide similar option on R5

      1. You know what, now that you mention it. You’re right. The shutter button is exposed and the rear dials are accessable as well. There are holes at the top to see the top Lcd. It looks well conceived and designed.

  3. Is there no way to retrofit the backside of the R5 like for the Pocket4K to add the cooling inside the camera?

    1. Then it becomes and entirely different camera aethetically and not in the form factor apealing to the 5D owner. That’s precisely why Canon didn’t go with an internal fan. A mere heatsink and passive cooling isn’t enough. It needs a fan to increase time limits before temp thresholds are reached.

  4. This will be great, assuming, of course, that there is sufficient conductivity from the inside of the camera, out through the back panel, where this device would be able to cool it.

  5. I hope, it will be the best solution and will calm all the people who is waiting for this camera with so many dreams, including me. Prodicing date and price?

  6. It looks like it uses a peliter module! That is such amazing innovation! Really clever idea. For those that don’t know what a peltier module is its like a thermo electric fridge. So it’s not the fan that does the cooling here its the peltier module that when is supplied a voltage actually gets colder then ambient temperature by about 15-20 deg C. Kudos to your engineers for thinking of such a clever idea!

  7. The fan doesn’t require the use of the Tilta Cage, does it? I’m assuming they’ll be sold separately?

  8. The cooling system is a great idea and an effective way to enhance the usability of this camera. The specs that Canon is offering can make a lot of us accsess a new dimension of filmmaking as a documentarist my only concern is will the cooling system be taken in consideration by underwater housing manufacturer. The versatility of this camera can be a game changer for underwater photographer and filmmaker, and if Tilta can offers cooling solutions for housing manufacturers it will be great, i mean if it economically intersting for the company of course. Great job folks 👏. Think about my suggestion 😀 you guys have an amazing ingenious ideas. Keep it up cooling system is a great idea and an effective way to enhance the usability of this camera. 9. Really annoying to have to attach an external battery, but this might have convinced me off the fence about cancelling my pre-order. For my needs i rarely shoot clips more than 2 minutes long, but I was worried about accumulation of shooting clips over time. Excellent decision to make the fan portion easily removable.

  11. this thing is a joke right? Like come’on. People are desperate to grab on to anything to gloss over the fact that the R5 and R6 have such severe heat limitations to practically make them worthless turds for video.

Take 30 photos in 1 hour? Can’t record any HQ video according to Gerald Undone.
Oh, well there is pixel-binned 4K mode…but looks like dog shit according to Gerald Undone with worst noise and detail

How is this thing powered? By the camera? There goes your battery life. Pelter cooling is extremely inefficient.
External batter? Where are you going to mount that? There goes your weather sealing on a $4K camera.

Stop making excuses with silly shit like this. Are you guys serious? LOL

      1. Triggered? All you can come up with is 4 words and a petty insult. Who is the retard….

    1. Apparently, regular line skipped 4k comparable to an a7riii now looks like dog shit when blown up to 300%.
Apparently, sticking a camera inside a cage to mount a TEC on the back without modifying the camera itself voids the weather seeling.

      Alright.

      1. News flash, the overheating is all bogus. The camera doesn’t overheat its all software limited. Boy, things looking bad for this tilta product. Also you paid $4K for a EOS R that shoots lineskipped 4K at a max of 30p! Why do you let Canon treat you like this?

    2. not 30 photos in an hour, gerald undone said he was taking photos at 30 degrees C for an hour. but someone on 5dcinema added a little malice to it…

    3. 30 photos in 1hour? what are u talking about?? You are really that stupid or u dont know what did u said? on 4K (no HQ mode) u got no limit of recording, full HD no limit of recording. And You dont have any limiation by shooting photos lol. You need alot to learn before u write something, coz after this u look like a really stupid dude…

      1. Take a look my friend. Multiple sources are now saying the camera “overheats” when taking stills so you can’t use HQ 4K or 4K120. Facts. Please heed them.

    4. Shot a good amount of video tests on my R5 and yes, it did overheat as specified by Canon’s specs but in regular 4K30 I ran it for 3 hours without issue. Did a burst of RAWs after (1K+) and zero overheating for photos. That being said, I’d still definitely consider picking up this cooler if it works as intended.

  12. If Tilta does research for Covid-19 vaccine there would have been a cure by now. Seriousely I think tech companies attract more talented engineers that has greater innovations than the medical field.

  13. this will add some couple of minutes to Canon’s Lasting, no more

  14. Hi Tilta, are you guys coming out with the same cage and fan for the R6? Thanks.

  15. I had to look at the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1st.
